CNC Machining: 5 Ways to Improve the Precision of CNC Machined Parts

40   |   Published by VMT at Apr 21 2022

CNC machining accuracy refers to the degree to which the dimensional parameters (scale, shape and orientation) of the part after machining match the required geometric parameters. The difference between them is called processing error. The size of the machining error reflects the unevenness of the machining accuracy. The larger the error, the lower the accuracy of the CNC machining center, the smaller the error, the higher the machining accuracy. The following is a brief introduction to the methods to improve the accuracy of CNC machining parts:

1. Adjust the process system

(1) Adjustment method Obtain the required size by pre-adjusting the relative orientation of the machine tool, fixture, workpiece and tool. This method has high yield and is mainly used for small batch CNC machining production.

2. Reduce machine tool error

(1) Improve the accuracy of bearing accessories:

①Improve the CNC machining accuracy of the box support hole and the spindle journal;

②Improve the machining accuracy of the mating surface with the bearing;

③ Measure and adjust the radial runout of the corresponding parts, so that the error can be compensated or offset.

(2) Make the spindle reversal accuracy not reflected on the workpiece CNC machining center

3. Reduce the transmission error of the transmission chain

(1) The choice of deceleration transmission is an important criterion to ensure transmission accuracy. The closer to the end of the transmission pair, the smaller the transmission ratio should be;

(2) Before the tool size wear reaches the stage of rapid wear, the tool must be re-sharpened

(3) The tool material should meet the process requirements

4. Reduce the force deformation of the process system

(1) Load reduction and its changes

5. Reduce thermal deformation of the process system

(1) Equilibrium temperature field

(2) Accelerate to reach heat transfer equilibrium

(3) Increase the heat treatment process to eliminate internal stress;

(4) Reasonably arrange the processes of the CNC machining center.
